He last appeared at Vienna’s English Theatre as avant-garde photographer Zeke in A Capital Affair. Alex has also been seen in Vienna as Gerald in An Inspector Calls (International Theatre), as Feste/Narr in the dual-language Was Ihr Wollt/Twelfth Night, and Paris in Romeo and Juliet/Romeo und Julia (Open House).
Alex lives in the Highlands of Scotland, where he is an avid mountain-climber and naturalist. He has appeared there at Pitlochry Festival Theatre as transvestite gossip columnist Mary Sunshine in Chicago, and James Joyce in Travesties, as well as in Quality Street, High Society, Absurd Person Singular, People, The Ruling Class, A Chorus of Disapproval, Lady Windermere’s Fan and Hello, Dolly!
He has also recently appeared in the UK Tour of Round the Horne and for Swanage Repertory Theatre, in The 39 Steps, Keeping Up Appearances, and Wait Until Dark, as well as for Guildford Shakespeare Company in Twelfth Night and The Merry Wives of Windsor.
Other credits include Peril at Sea (UK Tour); The Shakespeare Revue, (UK Tour); Stiles and Drewe’s The Three Little Pigs (UK Tour); Blood Brothers (West End and UK Tour); Flahooley! and Mexican Hayride (Sadler’s Wells); Enjoy! (York Theatre Royal); Doctor Faustus (Creation, Oxford); Pool (Brockley Jack); The Tempest (Winchester Theatre Royal); Alice in Wonderland, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Taming of the Shrew (Guildford Shakespeare Company); The Way to Keep Him (Artifice). As a puppeteer he worked on Midnight (Peacock, London); and Monstersaurus (UK Tour) and has toured the USA
with The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child, Room on the Broom and Pigeon Party! He regularly appears in pantomime, this Christmas as the Beast/Prince in Beauty and the Beast for the Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage.
Alex studied English at Jesus College, Oxford, and he still works as a proof-reader and translator, for everyone from Volkswagen to the University of Bern. His translation work for the stage includes Der Grüffelo for Junges Theater, Bonn. His website is www.alexscottfairley.com
