Ken trained as a director with Joan Knight at Perth Theatre in Scotland after studying Creative Arts (Music and Drama) at Newcastle upon Tyne Polytechnic. He has held three Artistic Directorships at UK theatres, The Byre Theatre of St Andrews, Perth Repertory Theatre and the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool. He was also Associate Director at the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton and with Borderline Theatre, one of Scotland’s leading touring companies.
Recent productions include the premieres of Aye, Elvis by Morna Young (Gilded Balloon Rose Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe Festival); Melania by Hilary Brooks & Clive King, His Final Bow by Peter Arnott and Rachel’s Cousins by Ann Marie Di Mambro (A Play, A Pie and A Pint at Oran Mor, Glasgow and the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh).
Other work includes Bus Stop, Noises Off, The Grapes of Wrath, Dr Angelus, Stepping Out, Outlying Islands and Whisky Galore – A Musical (Pitlochry Festival Theatre); Lucky Numbers, Ladies Day, Laurel and Hardy’s The Sons of the Desert and Special Measures (Royal Court, Liverpool). His touring work includes The Odd Couple by Neil Simon, Bondagers by Sue Glover, Parking Lot in Pittsburgh by Anne Downie, A Happy Medium by Dorothy Paul and John Bett and Tally’s Blood by Ann Marie Di Mambro. Future work includes a revival and tour of Aye, Elvis and Jack and the Beanstalk (Gaiety Theatre, Ayr).
Ken is really delighted to be back in Vienna working with the terrific team at Vienna’s English Theatre having previously directed Dial ‘M’ for Murder by Frederick Knott and Outside Mullingar by John Patrick Shanley.
