Allan Knee is the author of the play The Man Who Was Peter Pan, which was the basis for the film Finding Neverland (starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet), and received an Academy Award nomination for best picture. It was subsequently made into a musical. He wrote the book for the Broadway musical Little Women, which premiered in Tokyo in 2019, and will have a national tour in England.
Among his other works are the four-part adaptation of The Scarlet Letter for the PBS, and The Jazz Age, about F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway, which played at the Playground Theatre in London with a jazz band providing the music. The dance drama, Syncopation, which is closest to his heart, is about the passion of two workers who struggle to become ballroom champions in 1913. It was given a Humana award for best regional play.
His latest work, The Astonishing Times of Timothy Cratchit (music by Andre Catrini) premiered in 2019 at the Hope Theatre in Manchester, England.
Allan is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama and Columbia University.
