Right after completing her studies (Dance, Acting and Voice) at the Howard

University College of Fine Arts in Washington Carole Alston was engaged to Stadt Theater Bern and undertook tours to Berlin (Theater des Westens), Paris, Karlsruhe, Kaiserslautern, Cologne, Graz and Vienna.

Her leading roles in musicals include Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate (Kate), A.L.Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar (Mary Magdalene),Mitch Leigh’s Der Mann von LaMancha (Aldonza) and Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story (Anita), to which Bernstein remarked: “My God, you are fabulous.” Her wide performance range includes plays, classical and contemporary music, Jazz, Gospel and Blues in radio and television. She has performed with artists from David Hasselhof to Karl Schönböck, from José Carreras to Erich Kleinschuster.

Since settling in Vienna Carole Alston teaches jazz dance at the Vienna State Opera Ballet School. She has sung at the Volksoper, in the Karajan Center and the Wiener Konzerthaus. In the Alte Schmiede she performed two contemporary pieces composed by Nancy van de Vate – Cocaine Lil and Venal Vera. In 2000 she choreographed, staged and played the part of “Nell” in Ain’t Misbehavin’ – The Fat’s Waller Musical in Theater beim Auersperg, which she performed again at the Wiener Kammeroper this year (under the direction of Giorgio Madia). In 2005 she performed the role of “Julia” in the European premiere of the A Cappella Musical Avenue X, also at the Kammeroper.

As jazz vocalist she has performed at Jazzland, Birdland, Porgy and Bess, the Salzburger Jazzherbst and at other events with well known Jazz musicians from the Austrian jazz scene.
