Sue Mayes has a long and distinguished career in Theatre Design with work stretching from Pantomime and Young People’s Theatre to Film and Corporate Work.
After obtaining an Honors Degree from the Central School of Art and Design under Ralph Koltai she began her professional career in traditional British repertory Theatre in Ipswich, then moved into devised theatre at The Belgrade Theatre in Education Company.
Since then Sue has worked extensively, especially with minority theatre groups such as Nitro, Greae, Talawa and Tamasha, and with companies producing new writing. As well as designing for established theatres such as the Theatre Royal Stratford East and the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith, she has designed for prisons and for corporate entertainment.
Most recent designs include The House of Bilquis Bibi for Tamasha, School for Scandal and Cul-de-Sac for the Comedians Theatre Company at the Edinburgh Festival and Office Party at the Pleasance Theatre. Her last design for Vienna’s English Theatre was Time Stands Still.
