Lothar Hüttling

Lothar was born in Wiesbaden 1969, and currently lives and works in Vienna and Geneva.

His first theatrical experience was as a trainee on Der Troubadour, directed by Hans Neuenfels, at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin in 1995.

In 1997 he went to study stage and costume design at the University for Applied Arts in Vienna, and graduated in 2002. During his studies he was Assistant Stage Designer at the Akademie and the Burgtheater in Vienna.

Since completing his studies he has been Assistant Costume/Stage Designer for several productions at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt and Innsbruck, and in Vienna at the Burgtheater, Akademietheater, Volksoper, Theater an der Wien, Theater in der Josefstadt and Festspiele Reichenau.

From 2006 to 2013 he worked as Assistant Stage Designer at Theater in der Josefstadt and Kammerspiele.

Lothar has also designed for Stadttheater Solothurn, Théâtre du Grütli in Geneva and for the Festival d’Avignon. He designed set and costumes for Firlinger (2009) and set for After the End, both for Theater in der Josefstadt. In 2012 he designed the set for the Musical Non(n)sens at Kammerspiele in Vienna, in 2013 costumes for the play Lotti & Lilya at Theater in der Walfischgasse. Most recent designs include Iphigénie en Tauride, Horace and Bérénice in Geneva.

This is Lothar’s ninth production for Vienna’s English Theatre, having previously designed the costumes for Doubt, A Picasso, Crimes of the Heart, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Other Desert Cities, and set and costumes for Chickenshit, Bad Dates and Venus in Fur.
