Alison trained as a sculptor and then as a theatre designer at the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff and on the Motley Design Course in London.

Freelance work on the London Fringe followed including The Frogs by Stephen Sondheim performed in Brentford swimming pool. Next came six years in repertory as Associate Designer at the Royal Theatre Northampton, designing for the main stage, theatre in education, community touring and youth theatre. Favorite productions include Northanger Abbey, A Christmas Carol, The Glass Menagerie, Our Day Out, Top Girls and Just Between Ourselves, also costume designs for eleven traditional pantos.

Since then freelance work has included costumes for production shows on board the QM2 and QE2 and A Little Local Difficulty, Mail Order Bride, Wind in the Willows, Albert Nobbs and costumes for Babes in the Wood all for Oldham Coliseum. Alison also works extensively in Theatre in Education and small scale touring, in this field recent shows for M6 theatre company include Danny King of the Basement, On the Street Where I Live, Odd Socks and Jaz and Flo a large scale installation for early years. Touring work includes Scorcher and The Bomb for Action Transport and also Jack for Tutti Frutti and York theatre Royal.

Alison was Production Designer on Brookside for Mersey TV for two years and co-designed the costumes for Coronation Street’s pant.
