Synopsis
When celebrated novelist Charles Condomine and his second wife Ruth invite a medium to give a seance, they expect nothing more than an amusing evening full of trickery and a few insights for the story Charles is writing. But the wonderfully eccentric Madame Arcati turns out to be a genuine psychic – and when she unintentionally summons up the ghost of Charles’s deceased first wife, Elvira, the trouble begins. The temperamental spirit, who can only be seen by Charles, turns the happy couple’s life upside-down by beginning a blithe campaign to reclaim her husband.
Blithe Spirit, written in 1941, has all the wit of Noël Coward at his very best and is Coward’s personal favourite and most successful play.
