Synopsis

Widely considered the father of modern realism, Ibsen wrote A Doll’s House in 1879, propelling world drama into the modern age. His groundbreaking masterpiece ends with Nora Helmer walking out of her front door, leaving behind her husband and young children in order to fulfil her duty to herself. George Bernard Shaw described her parting gesture as the “slam heard round the world.”

Lucas Hnath‘s snappy sequel imagines the iconic heroine fifteen years later as a successful feminist writer and independent woman. But a skeleton from her past has her returning home with an urgent request. With a knock at the door, Nora is launched back into a household that is now alien to her. What reactions will she have to face from those she abandoned? And what price did she have to pay for her quest for personal freedom?
Universally acclaimed on Broadway when it opened in 2017, this smart and sophisticated comedy raises fascinating questions about personal freedom versus responsibility to others and the ways the roles of women have – and have not – changed.

„A triumph! Smart, funny, and utterly engrossing!” – The New York Times

„Hnath writes fast, vibrant dialogue – much of it in a salty, modern vernacular.“ – The Guardian
_
“Lucid and absorbing…Modern in its language, mordant in its humor and suspenseful in its plotting…“—Time Out NY
