Sean Aita


Sean is an award-winning theatre director and playwright. Originally trained as an actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School he performed extensively in the West End and in regional repertory theatre in the UK, appearing in Ingmar Bergman’s celebrated Hamlet at the Royal National Theatre and as the leading role in Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband at the Westminster Theatre.

He assisted Doctor Jonathan Miller at the English National Opera, worked with Paul Elliott on large scale commercial pantomimes at E&B Productions and produced work on the fringe in London before being appointed Associate Director at the Royal Theatre, Northampton. Whilst at Northampton his new play Yallery Brown, co-produced with Forkbeard Fantasy transferred to the Greenwich Theatre in London winning the Checkout Theatre award.

As Artistic Director of Forest Forge Theatre company, Sean produced a major international collaboration with Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador of a new work commissioned to tour in both Canada and the United Kingdom. His work for the company was shortlisted for the Stage Awards for Achievement in Regional Theatre.

Sean has worked with Vienna’s English Theatre over a period of nearly forty years as an actor, writer and director. Main house productions include Lady Windermere’s Fan, Art, The Lie and Say Who You Are, and the recent VETA graduate show A Monster Calls.

In 2017 Sean was appointed Associate Professor in Theatre at the Arts University Bournemouth, he is a member of the Trinity College London drama panel and a former member of the All Party Parliamentary Committee on Art and Design.
